
It was pandemonium on Thursday when 11 babies were discovered missing out of 25 babies reported to be staying at a motherless babies home located at
Onitsha South Local Government, in Onitsha,nAnambra State, eastern Nigeria.
According to reports, security officials were resisted from evacuating the babies by worker in Umunna home on alleged orders of their boss who was away
to Abuja.
The leader of security officials from the council, Lady Henrietta Agbata, who doubles as the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Developmen, raised the
alarm that out of 25 inmates reported to be in the home, only 12 were seen.
However, the home officials explained that two babies were at Umunze Special School leaving 11 babies to be accounted for.
The ministry workers eventually evacuated the 12 babies to the Onitsha Red Cross Motherless babies home while the home was later sealed up.
The Director Child Development, Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Emeka Ejide said the
home was allegedly engaging in child trafficking Ejide informed that the Commissioner gave the directive to shut the home in view of the need to help
investigate the alleged trafficking and child theft from the home.
He added that the action was carried out in compliance with the child right law of Anambra State section 198.
