Hyena Snatches Baby from Woman’s Back.

Zimbabwe: A stray hyena last week attacked and killed an 18-month-old child in Zingindi Village, Masvingo, in a case that has stunned the local
community.

It is understood Sarudzai Muzamane, the child’s mother, visited a neighbour on the afternoon of March 5 with the infant strapped on her back.

Muzamane then left for home at around 4pm. As she was walking, the hyena suddenly appeared from a nearby bush.

The 23-year-old mother tried to fight the predator while also preventing it from attacking her baby.

The hyena, however, overpowered her, and dragged the baby into the bush.
Muzamane alerted fellow villagers who then rushed into the bush and attacked the animal with logs, hoes and machetes, eventually killing it.

The baby’s corpse was discovered close by.

Police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Peter Zhanero confirmed the incident.
